08/02/2017 – Bexar County Deputy Arrested for Engaging in Organized Crime
Bexar County Deputy Rita Alvarez was arrested Wednesday on charges of Engaging in Organized Crime and Illegal Barter, Expenditures and Investments. Alvarez is accused of personally collecting drug debts for an inmate incarcerated in the Bexar County Jail. The inmate, Cristobal Perez, may be connected to a gang. Alvarez then possibly used a third person to funnel the money into Perez’s commissary fund.
Alvarez is an 11 year veteran of the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office. She has been placed on unpaid leave.
