Deputy Arrested for Raping Woman while On Duty

(GA) – Jerry Glover, who has been in law enforcement since 1967, is accused of raping a woman on May 11. Very little information is being released which is common in sexual assault cases.

Deputy Glover is accused of going to the woman’s home while on duty and in uniform, and forcing her to have sex. “Glover knew the woman through his duties as a deputy sheriff, Wilson told Law&Crime in a phone interview.”

“The woman reported the incident to LaFayette Police a couple hours later.” The LaFayette Police Department requested assistance with the criminal investigation from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI).

“As I was briefed on the investigation, it was extremely disappointing to hear the evidence that was being told to me, and that’s when I decided last week that it reached the level that he had to be terminated,” Sheriff Steve Wilson said.

Press Release Says Criminal Investigation is Still Active

The GBI issued the following press release on June 1, 2022:

Walker County, GA (June 1, 2022) – On Tuesday, May 31, 2022, the GBI arrested Walker County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Jerry Glover, age 81, of Rock Spring, GA, for Rape, Violation of Oath of Office, and False Imprisonment.

On May 11, 2022, the GBI was requested by the Lafayette Police Department to assist in investigating a reported rape of a woman by a Walker County Sheriff’s Office deputy. The investigation revealed that Glover had sex with a woman without her consent while on duty and in uniform.

This investigation is active and ongoing. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the GBI at 706-624-1424. Anonymous tips can also be submitted by calling 1-800-597-TIPS (8477), online at https://gbi.georgia.gov/submit-tips-online, or by downloading the See Something, Send Something mobile app.

I suspect they believe there may be more victims.

Jerry Glover

Glover “began his law enforcement career in 1967 with the Atlanta Police Department and worked there for 10 years.” He joined the Walker County Sheriff’s Office in 1978, but appears to have been an on again, off again employee. Deputy Glover was with the Sheriff’s Office for seven years during his most recent employment. He was assigned to a court officer position. Sheriff Wilson was notified of the allegations and Deputy Jerry Glover was placed on administrative leave. He was then fired on May 27.
