Deputy Arrested for Assault On Fellow Deputy

(FL) – The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office has arrested one of their own deputies “for domestic violence on his girlfriend, a fellow deputy.” Deputy Austin Rosa, and the female deputy he was living with, had gone out for the evening. Rosa’s partner claims that Rosa drank a large amount of alcohol.

When his driving became erratic, she demanded to be allowed out of the vehicle. Rosa pulled over and let her out, but then followed her and tried to force her back into the car. When she resisted he “pushed the victim down and threatened to kill her. She said he also threatened to shoot and kill any law enforcement officers who responded if she called for help.”

Criminal Investigation Started

The female deputy reacted the way other domestic violence victims react to protect themselves. She attempted to placate her abuser and to de-escalate the situation, which she was able to do. “Later, when she reported for work, she confided in her supervisor that she was a victim of domestic violence.”

The Sheriff’s Office immediately initiated a criminal investigation into the assault. The articles don’t say but it’s common that they would have also initiated an internal affairs investigation.

Statement by Sheriff

Per J99News.com,

No one should have to endure that kind of abuse, especially in the hands of someone who has sworn to protect others. It’s a black mark for all of us who carry the same mark, but I’m proud of the quick work our deputies did to put this deputy behind bars like everyone else. ”
