Two Inmate Suicide Attempts in Less than a Week

The Bexar County Adult Detention Center had two different inmates attempt suicide in less than a week. The first incident occurred on September 7. According to the KSAT article, “A detention deputy around 7:20 p.m. was alerted that an inmate was trying to commit suicide.” In other words, an inmate had to call out to the deputy to let him know what was happening. The 53 year old inmate’s condition was stablized at the hospital. He was in the jail on a charge of Injury to the Elderly – Bodily Injury.

The next suicide attempt happened today. This inmate was 35 years old and was in jail for Evading Arrest with a Motor Vehicle. This suicide attempt was discovered by the deputy while he was doing his observation checks. The deputy administered life-saving aid until medical staff could arrive to take over. “The inmate was taken to University Hospital for further treatment. According to the sheriff’s office, the inmate is currently in stable condition.”
