What Do Those Letters Mean?

We know we are missing a lot of abbreviations and acronyms.  We’re working hard to get answers but have been having some difficulties.  The judicial side is not being very cooperative at this point.  We will continue to ask for the information that the public needs.  Thank you for your patience.

NOTE:  The abbreviations are put in by several different agencies (jail, D.A., courts…). There are no standard abbreviations. The employees make up their own so if you see something that looks like it’s the same, it probably is even if it’s slightly different.

Dora – ENH stands for enhanced. That’s sort of like saying it’s a more serious version of the charge.

Roseanna – This is a first for us. We don’t have an answer for you. I recommend you contact P.R. Bonds to see if they can tell you. It seems to me they will need to know the specific person this is on so they can figure out what is happening. That’s something you are in a better position than we are, to do. If you are able to get an answer, and if you don’t mind, please let us know what they tell you so the information can be passed to other readers.

What does DA INFO TO CCF mean? Because I’m trying to have charges dropped on a family member and this is what was last updated on their record and I’m not sure what that’s supposed to mean.

    • admin

Megan – We focus on the jail. This notation is actually a judicial comment. We can gues that it might mean District Attorney Information to County Court File, but that’s just a guess. We recommend you contact the court clerk in the courtroom where the case has been set. She/he should be able to tell you what it means.

Cynthia – Your question is a little confusing for us. It could refer to the case file that is in the county court where the trial is set to be heard. It could imply that something is going to be filed with county court. In other words, a way to put something on the record. It all depends on what this is referring to.

Ron – Dismissed – Further Investigation. That means they didn’t feel what they had was enough but are still investigating it so charges could be filed again.

Ron – This is a legal question. You would need to speak to an attorney.

Megan – This is very iffy. We spoke to multiple different people in different agencies. We also got more than one answer but we think the following may be the likely one. Veteran’s Affairs Impact (court) Sent Motion. Again, we can’t be sure but we think the person who thought it meant this probably had the best guess.

Chapo – When an individual gets a court appointed attorney, that attorney still has to get paid. The attorney submits a claim to the Auditor’s Office that will include how much time the attorney spent on the case so the amount he or she is owed, can be calculated and paid.

I don’t recall the exact wording however it is when a victim is sent a form that states how the case or even of the case has affected their lives financially.

    • Esse

Megan, The Bexar County DA’s Office has a Department called Victim’s Assistance. “VA-IMPACT SENT” means that the DA’s Office has sent out the request to the alleged victim to see if he/she wants to make a victim’s impact statement.
MT usually means Motion but not sure if it means something else when accompanying VA-IMPACT SENT.

Jane – We were able to get a little information but there was still a problem. The person at the courthouse we spoke to thinks this means State Motion to Supplement Pending Motion to Revoke Probation. What it means is that the State (the D.A.’s Office in this case) is going to add additional information to the MTRP. Our concern is with the NG. We think they may have meant to write PNDING as short for pending. But if that is incorrect and the NG was actually something different, no one knows what it stands for. This is the best we’ve been able to do on this one. Hope it helps.

Who sets the pricing for the phone calls and the commissary? It breaks my heart to know that so many people can’t talk to their loved ones consistently.

  2. Confused Af.

My cousin was arrested for his second dwi yesterday. He posted bond today. And now they are telling me they won’t release him unless he installs an interlock device on his truck. The truck is in impound. He can’t get a device installed on his truck while him and his truck are both in jail…. how is this even legal.

    • admin

Confused – I would suggest you speak to his attorney. I would imagine that the arrangements have to be made to have the ILO installed before the vehicle is released to him. Since this situation has to be very common, one would think there has to be a process set up to handle it. His attorney would be the one who could answer your questions.

Danielle – The PR stands for personal recognizance. They either got a PR bond or are in the process of trying to get one. When there are letters after a slash, that’s usually the initials of the person who entered the information into the computer.

Bambi – To hinder apprehension is a charge. It’s when the police go to arrest a person and someone else interferes in some way. He was released on a personal recognizance bond. Basically, that’s signing on his own good name, his promise to appear.

Amelia – It probably means the DA has agreed to the defendant getting probation. The future date is hard to tell. If it’s very soon, it may be when the probation starts. If it’s far off, it may be when the probation ends. We recommend you speak to the individual’s attorney.

We would like to ask our readers to help spread the word about our website. Please recommend us to people you know. Thank you.

      • admin

Christine – It appears to be saying that the DA recommended that probation be granted on a deferred judgment basis. What happens is, if the person fulfills the terms of the probation, the charges are usually dismissed. That’s the deferred judgment part. The waiting to see how he does before they go through with the charges. It doesn’t have to be that the charges are dropped, they can be lowered, but they are usually dismissed.

Amanda – Disp stands for disposition. It sounds like they are saying that the bond was not forfeited. This is a judicial function. To be sure, we recommend you contact the court the case was assigned to. The court clerk will be able to tell you.

What do these abbreviations stand for?

    WALFR REC’D ADM
    ADM WALFR TO PRE
    COUNTY COURT FUG
    ADM WALFR TO CF WARRAN
    RECORD UNSEALED
    COMPLAINT REC’D CF
    PRES WALFR TO ADM

    • admin

JD – These are notations made through the Judicial system. In other words, the courts. Our focus is the jail. It’s hard enough to get answers from them. Every person in every agency seems to have their own abbreviations. It’s crazy. I wish we could help but the best we can do is recommend that you contact the court clerk in the court your person is assigned to go to court in. She or he can access the judicial page and since they will be able to see what is happening with the case, should be able to tell you what this means.

Prb – There is no standard format for entering information into the system. Quite frequently the person doing it makes up their own abbreviations which is why it’s so hard on all of us trying to figure it out. Normally there are 2 – 3 letters after the slash. In those cases, they are most likely the initials of the person who entered the information. Sometimes they want to put in longer information.

There are two ways to be committed to a mental health facility for psychological evaluation; voluntary and involuntary. It looks to me like this is saying Mentally Ill/Intent to Voluntarily Commit.

    MOTION TO QUASH
    DEFENDANTS DEPOSITIONS BY WRITTEN QUESTI
ONS AND FOR PROTECTIVE ORDER – meaning ?
i will tell my friends of website

    • admin

Ava – It sounds as if the person (defendant) was deposed at least twice; one by written questions and another time in regards to the protective order. In this case, deposed means being questioned under oath. Quashed means to nullify or invalidate. The motion to quash the depositions means the defense attorney is trying to keep the depositions from being used in court. Thank you for telling your friends about us. We may not be able to spend as much time as we would like on this website due to our jobs but it was always designed to help people. The more that see it, the more we can help.

Steven – You can contact the court clerk of the court the case was assigned to. Or you could contact the person’s attorney. The District Attorney’s Office would know but they usually don’t give out much information, though it can’t hurt to ask.

Rob – Not sure about V, it depends on where it is. UCR stands for Universal Crime Report. Law enforcement agencies are required to report crimes to DPS. That’s how they are able to generate stats on how many burglaries, assaults and so on, that happen in different areas. The totals are reported in the Universal Crime Report. If that’s where you are seeing the V it could be for violent but they’re usually more specific with the type of crime than that.

Bren – This sounds like it’s coming from the judicial side. We deal with the law enforcement side. I suggest you contact the court clerk in the court the case is assigned to, to find out what they are saying. Every different agency seems to make up its own shorthand.

Pam – That’s an old term that continues to be used. It originally referred to the cell where inmates were held who were in the process of being released. Not a 100% positive but I believe the RC stands for releasing cell. The 01 is just the cell number. Not sure how the setup is at the South Tower but the terminology stuck. When someone is listed as being RC01 in the computer, it is saying they are in released status. This does not mean they are actually out of the jail. Once an inmate is released on the computer he/she still has some steps to go through. They have to get their court information, maybe pick up any property the jail may have and finish up any other processes but it does mean they are no longer considered an inmate and are on their way out the door.

      • admin

Jessica – Thank you. Yes, these are old terms that used to apply to specific cell numbers in the main jail Booking area. The males and females were kept separate even when they were being processed out. Those cell numbers no longer apply, but the habit of using them to refer to a person being released remains.

    • admin

Kimberly – No need to say you’re sorry. We ask for reader input. The information we listed, we got from the jail. As you know, different industries may have the same acronym, but it has a different meaning. (The first thing I found for PICU, before I called the jail, was Pediatric Intensive Care Unit). I am going to add your meaning because that could apply too, depending on what is being referenced. We appreciate your contribution to our available information.

Joyce – Everyone uses their own shorthand. That probably means the person has been scheduled to be evaluated for mental conditions. But it might mean they have already been evaluated and a mental health issue has been determined. I wish we could be more precise for you, but like I said, they come up with their own abbreviations. We try to at least get in the ball park. The initials on the right side of the slash would be the initials of the person who entered the information into the computer.

N/A – When a person’s case is finished (closed), it is scanned into the computer system. That’s part of the archiving process. VC would be the initials of the individual who entered that notation into the system.

Sherry – Not without having an idea where that is listed and maybe not even then. We deal with things that apply to the arrest and booking process. However, multiple agencies overlap into that process and they all have their own shorthand on how they write things. If it’s something that was added by the jail, we can attempt to contact them to find out what it means. (For everyone who has asked for information, but didn’t get a response, it’s REALLY hard to get answers from the jail). If it’s information that has been added by the Courts, the County Clerk’s Office, the District Clerk’s Office, or the District Attorney’s Office, we won’t be able to help other than to refer you to them.

Do you have list of attorneys who take on section 1983 type cases, official oppression, civil cases of conttitutional rights violations, etc.. NOT involving police excessive force or minorities?

      • admin

Lynn – No we don’t. We tried to get attorneys to advertise, for free, on our site. All we asked is that they give a tiny bit of advice to our readers, in the form of a post, in exchange. Only one attorney wrote up anything for us. We thought it was a good offer. They got free advertising and our readers got some advice. Since the site is set up to help people, we were really hoping it would do better.

Tony – I’ve gotten this question from a lot of people. Unfortunately, it’s been really difficult trying to get information from the agencies for quite a while now. I can’t even say it’s just the jail. Pre-trial staff either transferred me around without saying a word about what they were going to do or they just hung up on me. I finally ended up back with a very nice officer who said that as far as he knows the PPO part stands for “Prohibited Possession of.” We were both stumped on what the “U” stood for. After I hung up with him I searched online and think it may be “Prohibited Possession of Unregistered.” I can’t guarantee this is what it stands for, but it’s all I could get.

Some context might be helpful. I worked for the state hospital in admissions and AWHC and WHC sound like abbreviations we used, but without context I can’t be completely sure.
ORD OF REF is just short hand for Order of Referral. Given the abbreviations here it sounds like this individual is being sent to another facility, but like I said without more info I can’t be certain.
        Hope this is helpful.

Frank – A pen pack (penitentiary packet) is just a file on an inmate who is awaiting transfer to the state penitentiary. The file will have information on the inmate such as charges, sentence, disciplinary action, medical, and so on. It is sent on to the state prison system. I imagine a notification is sent back when it is received.

Gina – PRB is often used for probation, but by the way you word your comment I think you may be talking about a PR bond? If it’s probation, there is no way for us to know. It would depend on what the court sentence stipulated. If you mean PR bond, then it can take a day or two. They do contact the references the individual gives to try to determine if the person is likely to follow through with their court appearances. It may take some time if they are having problems reaching the references.

Bob – The first part is Mental Illness. I suspect the second part may be something like Intent to Voluntarily commit. In other words, the person is voluntarily willing to go into a mental health facility as opposed to it being an involuntary committal where a judge ordered him to be committed. If one of our readers has better information, please share it with us all.

Rashedia – To get a P.R. bond a person has to have referrals. Basically, people saying that the person can be trusted to appear in court and that the person does have ties to the community. I believe P.R. bond wants at least two referrals, though I’m not positive on that. It looks like your person has gotten one referral so far. The letters after the slash are the initials of the person who entered the information into the system.

Angel – The first part is Possession of a Controlled Substance Penalty Group 1. After that it becomes a little confusing. I believe penalty group 1 is broken down into group 1, 1-A, and now 1-B. It looks like 1-B is a new subgroup. I haven’t been able to determine out how they changed the breakdown yet. But it’s basically, still a possession of a controlled substance charge. On the second part, I’m not sure what that means. It would help to know where you are seeing it.

Per Sec. 481.1022 of the Texas Controlled Substances Act, Penalty Group 1-B includes fentanyl, alpha-methylfentanyl, and any other fentanyl derivatives. This group was recently added effective September 1, 2021.

Also, I think “<1g" means the person was in possession of less than 1 gram of one of these substances.

I'm not sure, however, about the "CCCAL" part as I could not find it anywhere online, and there isn't enough context.

Jane – Yes, it does mean less than 1 gram. I got caught up in the new subgroup and didn’t finish explaining the charge. Thank you for the catch and for the additional information on the new subgroup. The second part I was referring to was the CCCAL. Normally when there are letters after, they are the initials of the person who entered the information, but those are too many letters. I doubt they are initials. If anyone has an idea what that may mean, please let us know. And again, thank you Jane, for helping our readers.

Alex – It would appear to mean “Ordered to pay University Health Systems.” Did the individual get transferred there for medical care?

Cierra – We read that to say Special Condition Bond. You would have to speak to his/her attorney to find out more.

Mercedes – The first is Attorney Claim for Payment. The second is Attorney Claim Forwarded to the Auditor’s Office. An appointed attorney still has to get paid so they submit for payment. I’m not sure what the 200/Bravenece, E means. It could be the name of the attorney and maybe their employee number, though that would be a low employee number.

Bobbie – GDLNS stands for guidelines. We’re not sure what the BE stands for. Since so many people there make up their own abbreviations, it can be difficult, but we will try to find out. If any of our readers know, please share your information.

Anna – We deal with information for the jail such as arrest and booking information. That appears to be something on the judicial side. We recommend you contact your individual’s attorney or call the court the case is being tried in. The court clerk would be able to help you.

Linda – Unit AG is an intake isolation unit. Everyone who gets booked into the jail goes there until they know the person is negative for COVID. I have no idea why they refused to answer what it is. Maybe they thought that by letting you know it was being treated as a medical unit that they would somehow be releasing medical information if they told you. That’s ignorant but you can blame it on the poor training they receive under Sheriff Salazar.

During research on my co-defendant I saw this
EFILE ENVELOPE NBR [numbers following abriviations]

I understand EFILE ENVELOPE however what does the NBR stand for?
Does having the ‘NBR’ after the EFILE ENVELOPE make a major difference ?

    • admin

      S. Gonzales – You’re getting out of the area we deal with. That sounds like the judicial side. I would imagine the number is just an identifier the same way cases get a number, or just about anything else, like receipts, orders and so on. But that’s just a guess. We recommend you call the court the case was assigned to. The court clerk can probably help you.
