POLICY CHANGE AT THE JAIL

Sheriff Salazar has approved a policy that no longer allows inmates to wear socks.  They also won’t be allowed to wear crocs.  Inmates will only be allowed to use the jail issued flip flop type sandals.  We’re not saying that the jail won’t supply socks.  We’re saying that inmates cannot have them at all.  Socks have become contraband which means anyone possessing socks can face disciplinary action.  How crazy is that?

This website has received many complaints over the years that the units are cold, especially at the Annex.  The Pamerleau administration had already taken away the inmates’ ability to wear a t-shirt under their top.  That decision appeared to be especially hard on the female inmates since they seemed to have suffered from the cold somewhat more than the men.  Now they won’t even be able to keep their feet warm.

We do not know what brought about this change in policy.  Is it a money saving action?  Did the Salazar administration decide that they would save money if they didn’t have to wash all those socks?   We do understand that spending time in a jail is not supposed to be fun but we don’t believe that an individual should have to suffer physically.

The creators of this website are beginning to question the decisions and actions of the Salazar administration.
